Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured and short-term form of psychotherapy that is widely used to address various mental health issues and emotional challenges. Denise Jenkins, LCSW, employs CBT as part of her therapeutic approach to help clients effectively manage their present stressors and improve their emotional well-being.

In CBT, the therapist and the client collaborate to identify and understand self-defeating and distorted thoughts or cognitive patterns that may be contributing to emotional distress. These thoughts often play a significant role in shaping a person's emotional responses to different situations. Once these thoughts are recognized, the therapist and client work together to challenge and reframe them, aiming to promote healthier and more adaptive thought processes.

CBT also emphasizes the development of practical skills and strategies to modify behavioral patterns. By learning new ways of responding to stressors and challenges, individuals can develop more effective coping mechanisms. This can lead to improved mental health and a greater ability to navigate life's difficulties.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder/PTSD

Addressing the impact of traumatic events is a crucial aspect of therapy Trauma can indeed affect people in various ways, and the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress can be profound and disruptive to daily life.

In therapy, Denise will work closely with clients to understand their unique reactions and responses to trauma. This involves creating a safe and supportive space for individuals to express their feelings, thoughts, and concerns related to the traumatic event. Validation and empathy play significant roles in this process, helping clients feel understood and supported.

Through therapeutic techniques and strategies, clients can learn effective coping mechanisms to manage and lessen the impact of Post-Traumatic Stress. This may include elements of CBT and EMDR, which can be particularly beneficial in addressing trauma-related issues.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Denise Jenkins, LCSW is a trained therapist in EMDR. EMDR is widely used and researched as is an effective treatment for trauma-related issues. EMDR is a structured therapy approach that is used to treat individuals who have experienced trauma. Developed by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s, EMDR aims to help individuals process distressing memories by using bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, hand taps, or sounds, to facilitate the adaptive processing of those memories. This process assists the brain in reorganizing and integrating the distressing memories, leading to a reduction in the emotional distress associated with the trauma.

As a trained therapist, Denise uses EMDR as a therapeutic approach with individuals dealing with various forms of trauma, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and other related conditions.
